The Friends of Crysler's Farm Battlefield and guests will gather at the bottom of the hill at 8:30am, then march up to the monument at 8:45am. The ceremony itself will begin promptly 9:00am.
A golf cart will be available to bring guests with mobility issues up to the memorial.
After the ceremony, guests are welcome to gather at the bottom of the hill for coffee.
Those unable to attend in person can watch the ceremony live via the Friends of Crysler's Farm Battlefield Facebook page.

The Friends of the Crysler Farm Battlefield will be holding their bi-annual fundraising dinner, the Robin Morris Memorial Dinner, on June 14th at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 370 in Iroquois. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with a full course roast beef dinner being served at 6:00 p.m. Guest Speaker Phil Gurski will speak on the Fenian Raids and their effect on Canada.

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by contacting Carol Goddard by phone at 613 938 2455 or by email at junethel17@gmail.com. The deadline to purchase tickets is June 3rd. We hope to see you there!

]]><![CDATA[Lost Villages Museum Flood Fundraiser]]>Sat, 08 Feb 2025 17:43:36 GMThttp://www.cryslersfarm.com/news/lost-villages-museum-flood-fundraiserAt the beginning of January, our friends at the Lost Villages Museum had a flood in two of their buildings: the Stuart House and the Forbes Reading Room. Many artefacts and documents were damaged during the flood, so the Ingleside Long Sault Lost Villages Lions Club is holding an event to help fundraise for the restoration and conservation work needed. This 'pay what you can' spaghetti dinner is taking place on April 12th from 3pm to 7pm at the South Stormont Township Hall (2 Mille Roches Rd., Long Sault). There will also be a silent auction.
For decades, the Lost Villages Museum has preserved the history of the communities lost during the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Project. The Friends of Crysler's Farm Battlefield is very grateful for the amazing work done there, in part because our organization shares a connection to the Lost Villages. The Crysler's Farm battlefield was flooded in 1959 during the Seaway and Power Project, and many residents of the Lost Villages were descendants or other relatives of Crysler's Farm veterans. 
This event is a great way for the community to show its support for an incredible local museum and we encourage everyone to attend.

Despite being seriously outnumbered, the British, colonial and indigenous forces defeated the American invaders on November 11, 1813, at the Battle of Crysler’s Farm. The Battle of Crysler’s Farm re-enactment, held every two years provides an opportunity to witness the type of warfare faced by combatants. The Friends of Crysler's Farm Battlefield are pleased to announce that the 2024 Battle of Crysler's Farm re-enactment will be held on the weekend of July 6 and 7 at the Battlefield Memorial Park adjacent to Upper Canada Village. A sincere thank you is extended to SDG Tourism and the St. Lawrence Parks Commission for their sponsorship of this event.

The Battle of Crysler’s Farm was fought on November 11, 1813, and resulted in the invading American forces being defeated by the combined forces of British, colonial, and indigenous allies, despite the victors having significant lesser numbers of combatants.
The event will feature educational displays from other local historical groups, a dress up booth, the Battlefield Memorial Building will be open and scheduled narrated tours of the encampment areas. There will be a sutlers (merchants) encampment, as well as a military encampment for people to visit and learn about life in the early 19th century. ​
Other events include the opportunity to have the experience of firing a period cannon at a cost of $80.00 per group of 4. Dr. Greg Baran will be back at the re-enactment this year and will be portraying a period [military field] surgeon with an amputation demonstration and information in regards to 1812 era medical practices. There are plans for a blacksmith to be onsite during the two-day re-enactment to provide information on this aspect of life in the early 1800’s.
Prior to the early afternoon battle, a children’s muster is planned which has proved in the past to be an entertaining time for participants and observers. This is followed by a well-planned battle between the opposing forces accompanied by a military historian providing commentary. The battles will be held in the early afternoon, with re-enactors portraying aspects of battle, with the children’s muster held just prior to the re-enactment battle.

Five more weeks to go! Join us on July 6th and 7th for the 2024 Crysler's Farm Battle Re-enactment Weekend. Along with a daily children's muster, performance from the 100th Regiment Band, and 1812 battle re-enactment, the weekend will feature guided tours, period merchants and artisans, a doctor's tent, a re-enactor encampment, displays from local heritage and special interest groups, and a dress-up tent.
Gates will open at 9:30 am and close at 4:00 pm both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children between 5 and 18 years, with free admission for children under 5 years.

The annual Remembrance Day Ceremony will be held again this year at the Crysler's Farm Monument, located immediately west of Upper Canada Village. On November 11th, join us at 8:45 am as we gather at the base of the monument. Promptly at 9:00am, led by a piper and costumed re-enactors, we will ascend the mound, where the ceremony will begin.
2023 marks 210 years since the Battle of Crysler's Farm ended the American campaign for Montreal, an accomplishment that earned Crysler's Farm the title of the Battle That Saved Canada. Join us to mark this occasion and pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of our ancestors.
Unable to attend in person? No worries - we will be streaming the event live on Facebook as well. The recording will remain available after the event has ended.

Our site now features updated histories of the battle and the monument, and a newly written history of the Battlefield Memorial Building (BMB) with photos of its various components and exhibits. There are also more photos throughout the site, mostly courtesy of the Upper Canada Village Archive.
The biggest addition by far is our "Archive" page, which has a variety of photo and document sources related to the battle, monument, and BMB. Most of the sources can be downloaded as PDFs or JPEG images, while others are links to free online resources. 
The "News" section (where you currently are) will be the location for all future posts about what the Friends are up to. It also includes archived posts from our old site. You can search the posts by date or by category (such as "re-enactments" or "remembrance day").
